Market Square and Maquette

"Market Square" and the archway maquette I built for lighting reference are both now on view at "The Art of James Gurney" exhibit at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia through November 16.

I visited your show last Friday and really enjoyed it. Though much smaller than your Dinotopia exhibit, which I saw in Wilmington, I enjoyed the opportunity to look closely at your work. Something I'd not noticed before is that sometimes your pencil lines show through in the the oil paintings, which was lovely because It felt like a privileged firsthand glimpse into your working method, though I've read your descriptions of it in your books and articles, of course.

Thank you for sharing your Maquette! I can't believe you have an exhibit at UArts! That's so close to me. I'm going to have to shanghai some friends to check that out. I've been following your blog for a good while and I never imagined I'd have the chance to see your work in person.

What I really like and what inspires me to build models is the great bounced light you can get in the scene. You can't make that up. Well, not easily. The glow on the underside of the dinosaur's neck and belly gives him so much life. Thank you for sharing this.
